Captain Midnight is a cloak and dagger story revolving around the legendary hero Captain Midnight who mysteriously disappeared while on a secret mission in the Bermuda Triangle while fighting an evil, Nazi-related secret organization. Then he reappears in modern times to find that some old enemies are still alive and kicking. Sound familiar at all? That’s pretty much where the similarities end. Captain Midnight receives a rude awakening when he finds himself in the modern day and does not receive a warm welcome. The Captain then finds himself the centerpiece in a multi-organizational game of cat and mouse. Don’t trust anybody. The story is filled with deceit, trickery, and clichés. I couldn’t tell if they were trying to be serious the whole time or not. Regardless, I think this series would have been a lot better with some BAM, BIFF, and ZAPOW in the mix, or at least a Meanwhile, back at Captain Midnight’s secret lair…

The characters seemed half-developed which was a shame because the story line has so much promise. I could see this becoming similar to an old timey serial novel. Captain Midnight confused me with his arbitrary changing between “I don’t kill” to “I most definitely do kill and it doesn’t bother me at all.” He isn’t really a hero, because he doesn’t seem to be heroic in any way. He seems fairly flat which is probably because most of his story is told by other people. The story had potential but was weak. The characters had potential but were weak. A weak start altogether, it hopefully develops into what it can be.

I give it a B: B for buxom pin-up-style ladies, which there were none of.
